General Policies

Cancellations:

We make every effort possible not to cancel classes or lessons. If a cancellation must occur, the class or lesson will be made up.  On rare occasions, and if a make-up is deemed impossible, tuition credit may be given at the discretion of the administration.

Please note that AR does NOT follow the Rochester School Department inclement weather cancellations.  Instead, morning & early afternoon cancellations will be decided by 8:00 am and late afternoon & evening cancellations by 2:00 pm. The main message on the phone system will be updated at that time. Please call Arts Rochester before coming for lessons on days with inclement weather. We do not call people individually unless the cancellation is for an unexpected reason.

Reduced Class Size Policy

Classes with fewer than 5 students enrolled are subject to cancellation. Any deposits or remaining tuition will be refunded. Smaller classes may run at an increased tuition rate if enrolled students are interested.

Waiting Room/Classroom Etiquette

At AR, we consider ourselves an important and serious educational facility.  As such, we expect students to be focused and ready to learn when in a lesson or class.  Students should maintain a respectful, attentive attitude toward instructors at all times.  In support of that, we must also ask for a calm atmosphere in the waiting area and dressing rooms.  Please encourage younger students and siblings to read, color, or play quietly while in the waiting area.  Running or loud noise of any kind will not be tolerated.

Dance Department Cancellation & Make Up Policies

Make-up classes are allowed but must be scheduled in advance. Please speak with your instuctor to determine an appropriate make-up class and with the front desk for confirmation.

Generally, February and April vacation weeks are used to make up any

cancelled classes. If you do not come to the scheduled make-up, please

speak to your instructor about another appropriate make-up class. Tuition

credit is not given when a make-up class is offered

Dance students who already receive a discount for unlimited classes will not

receive credit for cancelled classes. Instead, they will be allowed to take any

other class as a make-up. Please check with your instructor and the front

desk first.

Dance Dress Code

It is important to follow the required dress code so that the instructors can teach efficiently.  A uniform look allows the instructor to quickly and easily see the students’ movement and not be distracted by loud colors or patterns.  A dress code allows the instructor to make accurate and appropriate corrections.  In addition, please make sure that your hair is pulled up properly, in a bun for ballet and away from face for all other classes.  A cloth headband is great for short hair or bangs that are growing out.  For students who forget, a hair elastic can be purchased at the front desk for 25 cents.  Together these things contribute to getting the most out of class.

PreDance & DanceExplore!:  Girls- Pale pink leotard, pink tights, pink leather ballet slippers, black tap shoes.  A short attached skirt is okay, please no tutus or long skirts, as they can be distracting to the dancer and instructor.  Boys- White t-shirt, black sweatpants or shorts, white socks, white or black ballet slippers, black tap shoes.
