Our Mission


Arts Rochester is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to nurturing public appreciation of, and participation in, the arts by providing opportunities for public performances and exhibits, community education and outreach, and artistic networking.

Faculty Biographies

Joy A. Turner, B.A.(Ballet, Pointe)

Joy is a graduate of Point Park University, having received her B.A. in dance, cum laude, through the apprenticeship program with a concentration in ballet.  Joy received her early training from Inga O'Neill in Kennebunk, Maine.  She spent summers studying with The Briansky Ballet, School of Ballet, Cape Cod Conservatory Dance Institute, Boston Ballet, and as an apprentice with the Albano Ballet in Hartford, CT.  Joy brings with ther performance experience from the York County Youth Ballet, Portland Ballet, Maine State Ballet, Point Park Conservatory Dance Company, and the Esuardo Mariscal Dancers.  Joy can also be seen dancing as an extra in the motion picture, Bob Roberts.  Joy previously taught ballet and jazz for the Division of Theater and Dance at the University of West Virginia, and was director of the WVU Ballet Ensemble for three years before moving to New Hampshire.

 

 

Kerry Wood, M.Ed. (Young Children’s, Youth, Jazz, Tech-Hop)

Kerry trained in ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop at the West Concord Dance Academy in Massachusetts.  After fifteen years, she moved on to The University of New Hampshire where she made jazz, tap, and choreography her focus.  While at the University, Kerry spent three years as captain and co-choreographer for the Wildcat Dance Team.   Kerry began teaching young children’s dance and beginner jazz, tap, and ballet while still in high school.  She is a graduate of the intensive Dance Teacher’s Club of Boston’s Teacher Training Program.  Kerry has taught dance camps up and down the East coast for NCA Dance.  Her love of teaching led her to UNH’s Education program, where she earned her Master’s degree in elementary education. 

 

 

Heidi Hanson B.S, B.A (Jazz, Tap)

Heidi is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a B.A. in Theater and Dance and a B.S. in Exercise Science.  She was a member of the UNH Dance Company under the direction of Gay Nardone, and specialized in jazz, tap and aerial dance.  While living in NYC, Heidi performed with the XYandZ Project and En L’Air Aerial Dance Theater in the International Dance Festival, and you can catch her on the kid’s TV series Sheria and Loli’s Dittydoodle Works as Pink-A-Dink.  Heidi performed in Clara's Dream, A Jazz Nutcracker in 2006.  She teaches aerial dance each summer at the UNH Summer Dance Intensive, and just joined the brand new locally-based dance company called Tricycle Dance.  She is excited to return for her fourth year teaching at Arts Rochester!

 

 

Meghan Houlihan B.A. (Young Children’s Dance, Ballet)

Megan received her ballet training at Paulette’s Ballet Studio in Newton, MA, where she became a teaching assistant and eventual faculty member.  She attended the University of New Hampshire where she earned her degree in English Literature with a minor in Dance. The mother of 3 young children, Meghan is pleased to be returning to the classroom and is looking forward to adding her energy and experience to AR’s Young Children’s Program.

 

 

Joyce Goldstein B.S.(Tap, Ballroom) 

Joyce, dancer, teacher and choreographer, was formally trained in ballet, tap, jazz, modern and ballroom beginning in her early childhood. She began teaching dance and performing in community theater in her mid teens.  Joyce holds a BS degree in teaching from Pennsylvania State University and was the president of the of the University’s dance company, Orchesis. She danced professionally with the traveling troupe of the Manhattan Rockets during the summers while attending college.  Joyce  taught Junior High for eight years in Cherry Hill, New Jersey during which time she established and presided over the dance club.  Joyce was owner/director/choreographer of an aerobic dance business for 10 years.  She has been teaching dance in the Rochester, NH area since 1989 and has choreographed many musical theatre productions for high schools and community groups.

 

 

 

Christine Hounsell, B.A., M.Ed. (Tap, Jazz)

earned undergraduate degree in Psychology and her master’s in Counseling from the University of New Hampshire where she minored in dance and performed for three years with the UNH Dance Company. Her strong beliefs regarding the value of movement, dance, and the arts in creating a healthy individual and community, inspired her to create Rochester Movement Arts and Rochester Creative Arts Center which, in 2003, became the basis for Arts Rochester’s dance program. She continues her study of jazz and tap by traveling to study with master teachers from around the world. Christine has also taught for the UNH Department of Theatre and Dance.  She performs regularly with MaD Theatricals and has been a guest dancer with the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange (Shipyard Project) and the Cab Calloway Orchestra.

 

 

Lee Mattox

Lee Mattox is currently a junior at the University of New Hampshire majoring in Dance.  He has been training in all forms of dance for the past 17 years.  His past credits include titles from American Dance Awards and International Dance Challenge, performances at Walt Disney World, on Royal Carribean Cruise Lines, and in Clara's Dream: a jazz nutcracker.  As well as being a member of the UNH Dance Company, Lee recently finished up 42nd Street with the New Bedford Festival Theatre.  This year, he will be teaching jazz/hip-hop at Arts Rochester.

 

 

 

Stacy Horne, Intern

Dancing since the age of 3, Stacy studies all forms of dance at Arts Rochester in the Intensive Track program.  She has performed in the AR Youth Dance Ensemble for 5 years, performing at regional events and dance festivals around the region. In 2006, Stacy was featured in the Nutcracker performing several roles including the solo Spanish, and in 2007 as the Snow Queen and solo Arabian.  She intends to pursue college studies and work as a dancer and teacher.  She has been a teaching assistant at Arts Rochester for the past three years.  She is pleased to teach her first classes under the supervision of Christine Hounsell.  She is an honors student at Spaulding High School. 

 

 

Suzanne Pearlman, B.S. (Creative Gymnastics)

Suzanne Pearlman has been teaching gymnastics to students of all ages for more than 20 years. She has coached recreational students as well as competitive teams and was the head coach of the ‘91 & ‘92 State Championship Teams at Noble High School. Suzanne believes that gymnastics is a valuable tool for self-awareness and encourages an individual to discover his or her own potential. In May 2006, Suzanne earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the University of New Hampshire.

 

 

Sasha Randall, B.F.A. (Modern)

Sasha graduated magna cum laude from Long Island University’s Honors program earning her B.F.A. in Dance Studies with a concentration in Psychology.  She continued her post-graduate studies at Mills College in Oakland, CA where she trained extensively in modern dance composition and performance.  Upon her return to NY, she worked as a freelance dancer with Circle of Dance Repertory Company, performing in notable venues such as the Duke Theater on Broadway, P.S. 122, and Clark Theater in Lincoln Center.  Sasha is the director of the dance program at Berwick Academy and is artistic director of sonar dance and co-artistic director of New England Dance Project.

 

 

 

Susan Endrizzi B.F.A.– (Ballet, Pointe)
Susan is a graduate of Butler University Dance Program. She has danced professionally with the Ballet Theater of Pennsylvania, and Jose Mateos Ballet Theater. In 1996, Mrs. Endrizzi joined the Faculty of Jose Mateos Ballet Theater teaching children ages 8 to adults in the Vaganova style of Ballet Technique. Mrs. Endrizzi taught previously at
Arts Rochester as a substitute teacher. 

 

Music Department Faculty

Pat Christian, B.A. (voice, piano)

Pat graduated from the University of New Hampshire in May 2005 with a degree in Music Performance.  She began formal musical training in the United Kingdom, studying and completing exam levels in singing, flute, piano, and music theory through the graded system of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) in London.  In 1999, she attended a year at Leeds College of Music in northern.  In April 2005, Pat secured first place in her category at the NH Statewide competition of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) held in Keene, NH.  Pat has performed most recently with solo roles in Handel’s Messiah, Britten’s The Beggar’s Opera, Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief, PD,and GO.  Pat currently sings with the First United Methodist Church Senior Choir in Rochester and with the Granite State Choral Society. 

 

 

 

Roseanna Drysdale (flute, piano, Kindermusik)

Roseanna Drysdale has been performing on both flute and vocals for over fifteen years. Roseanna earned her degree from the University of New Hampshire, where she majored in Music Education with a concentration in flute performance.Her public school experience includes teaching elementary and junior high students, as well as directing band and chorus in both the Nottingham and Exeter Regional School Districts. Roseanna worked as an adjunct faculty member at UNH, Durham in the music education department. Roseanna has taught and continues to teach voice, piano and flute privately to both children and adults. Roseanna can also be found teaching early childhood music in area preschools.  She firmly believes in early childhood development, and is excited to share this passion with Arts Rochester students.

 

Theatre Department Faculty

Sharon Hilton

Sharon is the current Artistic Director at Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick, Maine. She was previously the Co-Artistic Director of InterPlay Productions, an outreach organization that toured Maine, NH and Massachusetts schools for 12 years. She has been teaching and helping young actor's learn their craft for over 35 years.
